The
manufacture of Dragon cement is a highly
technical, energy-intensive continuous process.
It all begins at our quarry, which contains
one of the few veins of limestone in New England
with the proper chemical characteristics for
making Portland cement.
From the quarry, limestone is mined and
crushed. The
crushed stone is then proportioned with other
additives, such as silica and iron ore, ground
with water, and fired in the 520-foot-long rotary
kiln at temperatures nearing 3,000°
F to produce clinker.
The clinker is then ground with gypsum to
make the final product, Portland cement.
In order to meet the high demands of the
manufacturing process, Dragon employs
approximately 125 personnel at the cement plant.
Their experience and dedication are
integral to the production and quality of our
products.
